How The Left Judges A Protest

Robert Gehl reports The Washington Post veered off into fantasyland Saturday when it tried to connect the leftist nutjob who shot up a Congressional baseball practice with right-wing radio.

James Hodgkinson – the man who left Rep. Steve Scalise hospitalized after trying to assassinate as many Republican lawmakers as possible at an Alexandria, Virginia ball field – hailed from Belleville, Illinois.

Hodgkinson’s political motives were clear and well-documented. He had a “kill list” of Republican lawmakers, he loved Bernie Sanders and Rachel Maddow and hated Donald Trump. He was a hard-core leftist.

So apparently, The Washington Post thought that they would travel to Hodgkinson’s home town – Belleville, Illinois, just outside St. Louis – to see what inspired him. And here’s what they came up with:

Right-wing hate radio.

I don’t mean “right-wing radio” like Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh. As The Post describes it, Bob Romanik routinely uses the “n-word” on air and blames black people for all of America’s problems.

Yeah – the guy’s a racist.

So what does this nitwit have to do with Hodgkinson and his left-wing attack outside the Nation’s Capital? Nothing. Well … unless you read WaPo.

They made the assumption – pure conjecture – that this left-wing zealot probably listened to right-wing hate radio. How? Gee …

“I can’t say for sure if this Hodgkinson guy listened to me, but he probably did,” Romanik said in a recent interview. “If people would be honest about what drove Hodgkinson to the point of violence, you’d probably see a lot of people right on the same page with him all over the country. But around here, for sure.”

And it was that “hate radio” that made Hodgkinson so angry he decided to kill people, get it?

Twitter didn’t.

Even BuzzFeed’s political editor pointed out how speculative and stupid the story was:

“What’s the point of this? The shooter hated Trump and there’s no indication in the story he listened to this pro-Trump host,” Katherine Miller asked.
