The Democratic National Committee is facing fraud charges for receiving donations, masking it to look like they were impartial while supporting Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in 2016.
The Democratic National Committee claim that they were impartial when it came to picking a presidential candidate. The clear violation of that pledge of impartiality was documented in WikiLeaks’s scandal that rocked the 2016 election.
According to reports, DNC has been charged with “fraud, deceptive conduct and negligent misrepresentation over the course of the 2016 primaries” for their involvement in Hillary Clinton’s primary win over Sanders last year. They have been accused of “misappropriation of public funds” and have been ordered to repay their donors contributions.
Attorneys for the DNC and its former chairperson, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, tried to dismiss the lawsuit a couple of times. First she said that the lawsuit wasn’t properly served by Beck and his team, before stating there are no enforceable obligations for the organization to practice neutrality during the primaries. Beck said in an interview last week:
“What if Apple went into a court of law and said, ‘We actually don’t believe we have any enforceable obligations to our shareholders’.What do you think would happen to the Apple stock price?”
Since the DNC dependent only on the donations they get, this has been a tough time for them. Sanders supporters allegedly said they would redouble their commitment to oppose the DNC’s efforts if the DNC successfully argues its obligations claim. For Democrats, this is a no-win situation.
