Anthony Weiner Accepts Plea Deal, Facing 10 Years In Abrupt Court Trial

Anthony Weiner appeared stern as he headed to a Manhattan courtroom.

Ruined former Congressman Anthony Wiener cried piteously in court Friday morning as he pleaded guilty to a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor. Wiener’s sexual perversions wrecked his a career and threw a wrench into estranged wife Huma Abedin’s relationship with Hillary Clinton.

“I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse,” Weiner told the court. “I apologize to everyone I have hurt. I apologize to the teenage girl, whom I mistreated so badly.”

Prosecutors are angling for a 27-month prison sentence, which Wiener claims he will not attempt to appeal. The disgraced politician will also have to register on the sex offender registry.

Last September the Daily Mail reported the bombshell news that Wiener, already considered something of a pariah for his past transgressions, was sending sexually-explicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl. His wife meanwhile was helping Clinton run a cutthroat presidential campaign

Hillary Clinton came under fire for keeping Human Abedin so deeply intertwined with her campaign. The blow-back from Weiner’s disgrace marred Abedin nearly as much as it did her husband.

The teenager first solicited Weiner over Twitter. The relationship between the two quickly became sexual as Weiner began to bombard the girl with salacious photos and messages. The entire time he was communicating with the child he knew exactly how old she was. He was contacting the girl while his biggest care was supposed to be taking care of his 5-year-old child.

“I engaged in obscene communications with this teenager, including sharing explicit images and encouraging her to engage in sexually explicit conduct, just as I had done and continued to do with adult women,” Weiner tearfully told the court.

“I knew this was as morally wrong as it was unlawful.”

A court illustration shows Weiner being comforted by his defense attorney.

Weiner’s court proceedings were a sad spectacle. Weiner used to be rising star, a man at the top of his career. He threw it all away for a fantasy relationship with a minor that he never even met. Weiner is a sick man.

“I don’t know if it’s justice. I don’t know what the sentence is gonna be. I would like to see, is [the sentence] fair or not fair? Just because he’s pleading guilty doesn’t mean he’s going to do a bit of time.” the girl’s father told the Mail.

The father went forward with charges against his own child’s wishes. The victim is confused about what happened to her and likely wants it all to just go away. Her father, however, is protecting more than just her life. Men like Weiner often end up preying upon multiple women.

“Today, former Congressman Anthony Weiner admitted and pled guilty to sending sexually explicit images and directions to engage in sexual conduct to a girl he knew to be 15 years old,” Acting Manhattan U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim said in a statement released earlier today.

“Weiner’s conduct was not only reprehensible but a federal crime, one for which he is now convicted and will be sentenced. We thank the FBI and the NYPD for their work in this investigation.”

Weiner remained quiet as he left the courtroom.

Justice was served in Weiner’s case. When revelations of his crime came to light eight months ago, there were fears that Weiner’s political clout and connections might shield him from punishment. Perhaps, if Clinton had been elected, they would have been.

“We work every day in the FBI and law enforcement to stop adults from preying on vulnerable children,” FBI Assistant Director in Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. said. “Our partnership with the NYPD cannot be stressed enough in this case, and we would like to thank the Special Victims Unit for all the work and effort they put into this investigation.”

Weiner still has few months of freedom to enjoy until his sentencing hearing on September 8th. It’s likely that he will be sentenced to at least two years in jail. He claims to be completely repentant.

“I have repeatedly demonstrated terrible judgment about the people I have communicated with online and the things I have sent. I am filled with regret and heartbroken for those I have hurt,” he said.
